Ayussinte Pusthakam – The Book of Life
2ND March, SRI RAM CENTRE, 4:30 pm
Three generations…
Son, Father, Grandfather…
Among them there is one Yohannan…
What is sin…? It has to be begun from the Bible itself. It can only be begun but it is varied in the eyes of religion, individual, time and space. Yet they all are one and view spontaneous male female relationships as aberrations.
The Snake and Satan never desert us.
The suppressed sexuality of the Indians…
The mystery it creates when it spits venom…
A dialectical analysis from a land well known for political assassinations and sex abuses.
- Suveeran
SYNOPSIS
Ayussinte Pusthakam (The book of life) discovers and reconsiders the basic issues of sexuality and sin primarily raised by the novel, written by C.V.Balakrishnan. The play stands as an independent text with its dynamic but semantically loaded stream of situations. Committed only to the reality of the psychological realm, the play is a daring attempt to deconstruct the oppressive mechanism of religious orthodoxy. Symbols get fused into the totality of dramatic experience. Emotional intensity suggested through interpretative style of acting makes the play a real sight of directorial sense.
