The Festival Secretariat invites entries from theatre groups in the following categories:

Best Actor (Male) In a Leading Role

Best Actor (Female) in a Leading Role

Best Supporting Actor (Male)

Best Supporting Actor (Female)

Best Original Script
Theatre productions may be verbal or non verbal and may include physical theatre, puppetry, multi-media and dance.
The award consists of a specially designed trophy and a cheque.

Best Production: Rs. 100,000

Best Original Playwright: Rs. 75,000

All other awards: Rs. 35,000
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
- Plays must have been produced / staged between January 1st 2010 and December 31st 2010
- Plays can be in Hindi, English or any Indian regional language
- Plays may be adapted or be an original work by an Indian playwright or by an International playwright
- Only original work by Indian playwrights will be eligible for the Best Original Script Award.
- All plays must be video recorded and submitted in their original language
- Productions that have been submitted to the Festival in previous years are NOT eligible
- The Secretariat must receive entries by the 10th January 2011
- In addition, 2 hard copies must be sent with DVD or VHS copies of the plays
- An official letter of consent from the producer of the theatre production authorizing entry to the competition
- A full list of artistic and technical credits
- A profile of the nominee/s
- Two photographs of the nominee/s
- Five stills of the production
- A synopsis written in English in not more than 100 words. Also mention city of production
- Any reviews or previews of the play published in a newspaper or magazine
- Postal cost of tapes and submission forms will be borne by the submitting artist
- There is no entry fee required for submission
If the production is nominated for the festival you will be invited to stage the play in New Delhi in March 2011 as part of the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards Festival.
The cost of shipping the set, travel by AC II Tier Sleeper, Boarding and Lodging, Venue Costs and any additional technical requirements along with a nominal staging fee will be paid for by the META Secretariat.
In cases of copyright infringement, whether local or international, the submitting producer shall be held directly responsible. The Festival Secretariat will not be held liable.
Nominees in each award category are expected to attend the Awards’ Ceremony.
PROCESS:
- Theatre groups, individuals, playwrights and critics are invited to submit their production or recommend a production for the META awards in either the Emerging or Established categories.
- All productions must be submitted on DVD or VHS.
- Should a theatre company not be in a position to afford a simple VHS recording they may apply for funding up to Rs 4000 in order to record the production.
- The selection committee will consist of eminent personalities from the world of theatre as appointed by the Secretariat. The selection committee will comprise of 5 members, one each from the following cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata.
- The selection committee will view the DVD or VHS and finalize their selection for the festival.
- Nominations will be announced and posted on the website by 10th February 2010.
- A celebrity jury composed of eminent personalities from the field of theatre and the arts as appointed by the Festival Secretariat, will determine the winners in each of the defined categories after having watched the productions being staged in New Delhi at the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Festival.
- The decisions of the jury will be full and final.
- Awards will be announced at a ceremony to be held on 7th March 2010 in New Delhi and will be telecast across the country on a premium channel.
